You Should Be Watching iCarly

You Should Be Watching: iCarly

How’s it going everyone, welcome to a special Monday edition of You Should Be Watching. The series where we let you know what shows you need to keep your eye on. This week, we have a nostalgic revival, as I think that you should be watching the iCarly reboot.

iCarly? Didn’t that start years ago?

If you grew up during the mid to late 2000s, I’m certain you would’ve already heard of iCarly before. The show first came out all the way back in 2007 on Nickelodeon (that’s over a decade, I feel old now). Starring Miranda Cosgrove, the show revolved around Carly Shay who created her own web show with her friends and older brother. The series was incredibly popular back in the day, even after it ended back in 2012. Given the current trends in media, it was inevitable that someone would pitch the idea of an iCarly reboot. And seeing as this new iCarly reboot is already on its second season, it obviously wasn’t a terrible idea.

What’s the difference?

An issue that many people have with reboots is when the show or movie is remade with no changes. This normally makes it feel like a cash grab, but I would say ICarly is different. Instead of just rebooting the show with a new cast, it’s more of a sequel series than anything else. Most of the original cast have returned but are now all adults, which gives the series new areas to explore. The reboot also introduces new characters such as Carly’s new roommate Harper among many others. The overall tone of the show has also changed to, featuring more mature themes( which was bound to happen when you focus on adults and not teenagers).  The series is able to tackle more mature topics and storylines which provides something for fans new and old.

Don’t reboots suck?

Seeing as how most reboots aren’t very good, it’s totally understandable that you wouldn’t care about this one. While I do agree that a lot of reboots are trash, this one is different. You can tell that the people behind it genuinely care about the original series. This is obvious from the fact that they got back so many members of the original cast. And whilst the storylines are more mature now, they still retain the charm of the original. Whether you grew up with the series or only just finding out about it now, I’m certain you’ll find something to enjoy about this new take on iCarly.

And there you have it, why I think you should be watching iCarly. Whether you’re an old fan who is searching for that nostalgic kick or someone who stumbled upon it, there’s something for everyone. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. You can watch season 1 and catch new episodes weekly on Paramount+.
