You Should Be Watching: HALO

How’s it going everyone? It’s another week and you know what that means, a new You Should Be Watching. The series where we let you know what shows you need to be keeping your eye on. This week, I think you should be watching HALO.

HALO, isn’t that already a game?

Developed by Kyle Killen and Steven Kane, HALO is the newest exclusive show to hit Paramount+. Based off the video game series of the same name, the show stars Pablo Schreiber as the Master Chief. Follow along as he helps the UNSC (space government) try to stop the alien covenant threat. From exciting firefights to the mystery’s surrounding Master Chief, the UNSC, and the covenant, HALO will keep you invested at the end of each episode. Now, a question you probably have now is can I jump straight into this show if I know nothing about the games? Lucky for you, this is the most beginner friendly entry point since the original game.

Same concept, different story

You might assume because HALO is already an established franchise, you would need some prior knowledge to follow along. That’s not the case for this new series which makes it incredibly easy to jump into. The series instead provides a new take on the HALO story, one that is closer to the books than anything else. This not only provides a new experience for those who have only played the games, but also gives newcomers an easy entry point. The first episode introduces you to most of the major characters and storylines but still leaves you with questions. However, if you’re already a a fan of the series, you might not be as enthusiastic.

Changes for better or worse

Because the HALO franchise has been one of the most successful video game series in recent memory, there are a lot of fans. And seeing as how this series has been stuck in production hell for nearly a decade, there are a lot of expectations from these fans. To this group, I would say keep your expectations in check and go in with an open mind. If you go in wanting a 1 to 1 retelling of the HALO story, you’ll be disappointed. As I said before, this is a new take on this universe, making its own changes. Now, I don’t agree with everything they’re doing (one part in particular but I won’t spoil), but it’s something different. If you go into it looking for more HALO fun, you’ll have a much better experience.

Well, there you have it, a quick rundown of HALO, the new sci-fi spectacle. HALO is currently streaming weekly on Paramount+.
