Howdy everyone and welcome to the second instalment of the new series, You Should Be Watching. The segment where we let you know what shows you need to keep your eye on. This week, I think you should be watching (if you aren’t already) Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 2
What is Attack on Titan
Attack on Titan is an anime series that first aired all the way back in 2013. Initially animated by Studio WIT, the final season is being handled by MAPPA. The show follows the lives of the humans inside the walls as they try to survive, surrounded by people eating titans. But as the series progresses, there are some massive changes (especially in this season, I still haven’t recovered). It’s steadily grown into one of the top anime’s of the last 10 years.
What’s with that final season part 2?
Ok, stay with me on this. A lot of anime coming out normally split their episodes into two chunks. They’ll release the first 12ish episodes and call it season 3 part 1 and then a couple months later, release the second half and call it season 3 part 2. If you think about it too much, you’ll realise that it’s a little dumb but just roll with it. The most important thing though when you start watching is just start from whatever came out first.
Isn’t anime for kids?
I understand how some people might have this idea about anime or even animation in general. However, Attack on Titan is definitely not for kids. From the over-the-top fights to the intricate themes and deep characters, even the most adamant anti-anime watcher will find something to get invested in. Be it one of the many characters from Eren Jaeger to Captain Levi or the ever-evolving world, Attack on Titan has it all.
Can I just start with the latest season and still understand?
Technically you can start from the latest season and still get some enjoyment out of it, but you’d be missing out on so much. Seeing as the series has been going on for nearly a decade at this point, you’d be missing out on so much excellent character development and story. Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 2 is a culmination of everything that has happened up until this point and I’m sure if you were to watch it all the way through, you would have a blast. If you just want to watch the latest season to get on that hype train (which is totally cool as well), there are plenty of summary videos to help get you up to speed with the general gist of the series.
Well, there you have it, a quick rundown of Attack on Titan. The deep characters and engrossing story are sure to get anyone hooked. The series is currently airing in both sub and dub on Funimation and Crunchyroll.
