Ranking the My Hero Academia OP’s

My Hero Academia, a banger of a show that provides colourful characters, an engrossing story and amazing artwork.

Anime openings, essentially short music videos that get you hyped up for whatever show you’re about to watch. Put them together and what do you get, nine of the most entertaining anime openings that have come out over the last couple of years, but which one is the best?

This is where I, a stranger on the internet, gives you the 100% accurate, completely objective ranking off all the My Hero Academia openings.

Also, with the new movie World Hero’s Mission releasing soon on the 28th of October, now is the perfect time to get familiar with the series through its openings (or just watch the show, it’s only a quick 113 episodes and 2 other movies, easy weekend binge).

(Full disclosure, all of the openings are bops, and you should totally listen to them. Or just watch the show, either way.)

9. Make my Story

Coming in at the bottom is the second opening from season 3. Now there is nothing wrong with this opening; the song is still catchy enough and the visuals still get me hyped whenever I watch it. But the other openings just do it better, although the foreshadowing at the end is pretty neat when you notice it. I won’t spoil it here though.

8. The Day

The one that started it all, the opening for season 1. Now some might say I’m being harsh by placing this one so far down and that it should be way higher up and to them I say, this is my list, and I can do what I want. Back to the opening, when I first watched it I did think it was great, it’s what helped motivate me to start watching the series. In comparison to later openings though, it does look a bit bland, still a bop though.

7. Starmaker

The second opening of season 4 is definitely a change of pace fore the series. Up until this point, the openings have been all about hyping you up for each episode. Starmaker on the other hand has a different goal, to make you just feel happy. The upbeat song combined with the colourful visuals just scream fun which is a total 180 from the first opening of season 4 but we’ll get to that later. Super fun opening.

6. No.1

The first opening of season 5 comes in at number 6, contradicting the song title. This opening might have been higher up if there was some more variation in the visuals but seeing as the entire first half of this season only covers one arc there wasn’t much that could be done. Still a hype song though and they do make the most of the visuals they can use.

5. Merry-Go-Round

This is where we start to get into some of my personal favourites. The combination of music and visuals and the timing of it all is just great, especially once the chorus hits, it’s damn good. Whilst this one does take a while to warm up to, once you’ve heard/watched it a few times, it’ll be stuck in your head as well. Also, the change they did for the last arc of the season was a nice touch (again no spoilers here).

4. Peace Sign

Here is where I actually make people angry. Now I agree that this song is an absolute banger and seeing all the characters preparing for the sports festival is always fun to watch because who doesn’t enjoy a tournament arc. However, I think that the last three openings are even more hype, which I know might be hard to believe but just hear me out.

3. Odd Future

Coming in at third place is the first opening for season 3. This is another opening that you have to watch a few times to really get into it, but once you do, it will quickly get itself stuck in your head for at least a week. Everything from the song, to Shigaraki and the Nomu, to All might powering up, all of it combines to make something truly hype.

2. Sora Ni Utaeba

In second place is probably one of the more controversial picks. The second opening of season 2 is definitely not for everybody, I understand that, and it can be argued that both Peace Sign and Odd Future are more deserving. But, whenever I hear that build up, see the characters flashbacks and then when the chorus kicks in, I just can’t help but get goosebumps whenever I hear it. Absolute bop.

1. Polaris

The best My Hero Academia opening (in my opinion) is hands down Polaris from season 4. This song is an absolute banger, and the visuals are some of my favourites from any show I’ve watched. The way the opening progresses, slowly unveiling more characters and little story hints is amazing. And when that chorus hits, it’s incredible. Now I might also be extremely biased towards this opening seeing as it’s my favourite arc of the show, but who cares, this song is a bop and I could listen to it forever.

And that’s the definitive My Hero Academia opening ranking and I will not be taking any questions at this time. Regardless of which one is your favourite, one thing most of us can agree on is that they are all amazing in their own ways.

(Don’t forget the new movie also comes out October 28th in Australia. It’s going to be great, hopefully).
